Seller Participation in BID Process on Government e-Marketplace (GeM)

The Government e-Marketplace (GeM) has become a game-changer for businesses looking to work with the government. If you’re a seller or service provider, GeM opens the door to a huge market where government departments, ministries, and public sector undertakings (PSUs) are actively purchasing goods and services.

One of the key ways sellers get orders on GeM is through the BID process. But for many first-time users, the idea of “bidding” may sound complicated or overwhelming. Let’s break it down into simple steps so you can participate with confidence.

What is a BID on GeM?

A BID on GeM is basically a tender or request from a government buyer asking for specific products or services. Sellers can submit their offers (including price, delivery time, and terms) in response to these requests.

The government then evaluates all bids and usually chooses the most competitive and compliant offer.

Types of Bids on GeM

  1. BOQ BID– A bundle of different items combined under one BID. For Different line items of different categories which are not available on marketplace
  2. Custom Bidding – For specific requirements that are not covered by standard GeM catalogue items. When required category is not available in the marketplace and custom catalogue gets created by buyer based on which seller will participate in bid.
  3. Standard Bidding – For regular catalogue items with defined specifications. When required category is already available in the marketplace.
